President Donald Trump’s approval rating on the economy has dropped to its lowest point since he took office.

Only 43% of Americans approve of how he’s handling the economy, while 55% disapprove — the worst economic numbers of his presidency. This marks the first time he’s received a net negative rating on the economy during his time in office.

Voter frustration is focused on inflation, tariffs, and government spending. Support has fallen even among independents and blue-collar workers who helped elect him. Many Americans are pessimistic about the future: nearly half say the economy will get worse over the next year, the most since 2023.

On tariffs, most Americans — including independents — believe they hurt workers and raise prices. Trump’s handling of inflation is especially unpopular, with 60% disapproving. More than half of those surveyed believe the U.S. is either in or heading into a recession.

The poll surveyed 1,000 adults nationwide from April 9–13.
