New Survey Highlights Key Challenges Faced by Businesses Amid Tariff Uncertainty Recent research from GlobalData reveals significant hurdles for companies navigating the current tariff landscape, with over half of the respondents indicating that uncertainty in long-term planning is a critical challenge. The findings come from the latest edition of the Tariffs Sentiment Polls, which surveyed businesses between April 10 and May 31. According to the survey results, 57% of participants pinpointed long-term planning uncertainty as a primary issue. This uncertainty has been exacerbated by the U.S. administration’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs on April 2, which was subsequently followed by numerous delays and modifications. “The knock-on effect of all this uncertainty is a potential hindrance to economic growth, as businesses delay or scale back investments until the tariff situation stabilises,” noted GlobalData. In addition to planning concerns, half of the respondents also reported higher input costs as a notable challenge. Many companies are grappling with escalating expenses from tariffs on exports to the U.S., alongside wider pricing effects. GlobalData suggested, “These costs will only rise if currently postponed U.S. reciprocal tariffs are implemented.” Other significant challenges mentioned include a reduction in demand in international markets (30%) and increased regulatory complexities (29%). Interestingly, 25% of survey participants stated they are not experiencing any substantial challenges as a result of the current tariff climate. The survey further indicates a slight decrease in tariff anxiety among companies; however, concerns still loom large, with 65% of respondents expressing either very or slightly concerns regarding the impact of tariffs. This is a slight reduction from 68% reported in the previous survey edition. The number of respondents expecting negative consequences from tariffs has increased from 61% to 64%.
